Among Us is a horror game that plops players into the role of a socially isolated individual who stumbles upon a mysterious village that seems to be populated with strange, deformed people. But wait, in walks a voice that tells you that it’s all a joke—it’s just a game. And so you try to get your money back . . . and find out that it was an e-reader that you purchased that led you to the village. It’s then that the killings begin.
A game that starts with the words “Among Us” is bound to be strange, and Among Us: The Resistance certainly delivers in this regard. The game puts you in the role of a character that lives in a world where a new “Leader” has taken power, and you have to fight for your sanity and the future of the world. Not only are there the usual suspects like skeletons and ghosts, but there are also things like demonic clowns and mantis-people. Who knows what else is in store for you in this strange, semi-coherent nightmare world?
Among Us takes place in a rural town where a series of grisly murders has just taken place. It’s up to you to stop the murders before they can continue. Along the way, you’ll experience a wide variety of gameplay styles, as you try to figure out which of the town’s inhabitants are innocent, and which are on a murder spree. You’ll explore the town, finding clues, while trying to stay alive, as the murderer hunts you down. The game is being created by AgustÃn Cordes, who has made several games before. Among Us has received positive feedback during the last few months of early access, and it’s expected to be released in the next two weeks.
Among Us has exploded on the scene and in pop culture over the past eight months, but it certainly hasn’t come out of nowhere. Originally released in 2018, this clever multiplayer gem deserves the popularity and acclaim it eventually received. This growth is expected to be driven by Nintendo’s hype around the Switch release and other upcoming console releases. This is the translation of Switch on which we have largely focused. In case you missed it, Among Us is a successful indie game that takes the classic plots of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None and John Carpenter’s The Thing novels and transforms them into an engaging game with surprisingly fun 2D graphics.
Among Us Reviewed: Paranoid Murder – family entertainment
The idea of the game is simple: 4 to 10 people are assigned maintenance tasks on one of the three sci-fi maps, but the problem is that some of them are not people. Instead, part of that team is the Deceiver, an alien werewolf with a lust for murder and destruction. In bureaucratic style, when a dead body is discovered, an emergency meeting is called and the players can discuss and vote on which of their crew members they believe is the alien. There’s a lot of cunning and psychology in these snippets, with people trying to figure out who was where, what they were doing, and who might be lying. The one with the most votes is banished to the void. Of course, the self-appointed players are just trying to mislead – and outright lie – so that they don’t get kicked out by continuing their murderous machinations.
Cheaters can win the game by killing the rest of the team or destroying themselves, and humans win by killing the cheaters or avoiding self-destruction by completing all their assigned tasks. Among Us is a brilliant game that keeps things simple. The commands are easy to understand mini-games and can be performed on the touch screen, with the mouse and keyboard or via the control panel. The action keys are fully context-sensitive. If you are near something interactive, just follow the instructions. among us is no action. Even killing (usually in remote corners where you hope there are no prying eyes) is as simple as pressing a button when a clue appears. This desire to make a game that works on a variety of platforms benefits Among Us because players can actually play together on all of them. The same goes for the Switch version, so there will be no shortage of online matches at any time. Kernel Among Us, regardless of platform, is excellent. It’s just a fun game, full of clever twists, creative maps and accessible gameplay. However, the console port of the game brings to light some weaknesses that could have been more easily overlooked on mobile and PC. One issue unique to the Switch (but likely temporary) is the lack of in-game purchases, meaning you can’t buy pets and extra features that players on other platforms can. This whole microtransaction thing needs to be reconsidered because each platform – be it Steam, App Store, Google Play, etc. – is a separate island. Since the game doesn’t have a central account (similar to how Minecraft uses an Xbox account to keep track of all your DLC purchases), any purchases you z… For example, if you’ve made a purchase on iOS, you can’t transfer it to Switch, Android or PC (and vice versa). When it comes to the Switch specifically (and certainly other versions of the console), any game where text chat is a key element may have issues. If you play the Switch version as mobile, it works just like any mobile version. Either you are against typing text by touching the screen, or you are not, but this can be fixed. Doing the same with the control panel is another story, even with the usual shorthand and terrible diction that comes with such a thing. There has been no attempt to simplify the process or help players quickly submit necessary information (such as locations and colors). This means console gamers will likely have to forgo long chat sessions, which is not ideal.

- Text chat during a control panel session is terrible
- The lack of a single account means that purchases on one platform are not tracked on another.
- There are no microtransactions on the Switch yet, so all you can do is look sadly at other players’ pets and cool settings and sigh (for now).
Among Us on various platforms proves that despite its undeniable excellence, the game may not grow as fast as its popularity. Despite its flaws, Among Us is a smart game that deserves its time in the spotlight. It presents a surprisingly complex concept in a simple, accessible package in which the battles are fast-paced, fun, often hilarious, and sometimes even tense.
